About Dr. John J. Schaffner

John J. Schaffner is a practitioner-scholar curious about what flourishing will look like in organizations and for individuals within organizations, and wants to be a part of painting that picture. Coaching has driven his primary purpose since receiving his coaching certification from Columbia University in 2010 and his MBA in 2000.  John continues to pursue this avenue of research on Coaching and Millennials and Centennials post-doctorate. A humble disciple of both EI/SI master Dr. Richard Boyatzis, Ph.D. and Columbia Coaching Director, Dr. Terry Maltbia, John strives to leverage tools refined within his studies to integrate into his passion of coaching. Having built the Coaching program for MBAs The Ohio State’s Fisher College of Business, John presently runs the program and is able to embed his refined coaching methodology into the MBA experience.


John’s experience has been riddled with many stories and careers. Along the way, his career has included roles such as Tour Manager for International Jazz Musician Wynton Marsalis, Store Leader for Home Depot Manhattan, Sr. Director Global Talent and Training with Abercrombie & Fitch, Head Coach at Manta.com and COO for IM Creative. Every aspect of his experience has allowed John to learn from exceptional people that have shaped how he views both business and coaching.
